CASE DETAILS

Typical “West Country” early 19C, short door case with typical well chosen figured mahogany to front with plainer mahogany to sides.The eagle/ball finial centred swan neck pediment having brass paterae terminations. The hood with typical regional characteristics - wavy inner edge to door, “flying” fluted hood columns with cast Corinthian capitals, plus shaped back splats to rear of hood. The trunk and base with boxwood strung, canted corners, the door with boxwood stringing all set on swept shallow bracket feet.

DIAL DETAILS

12” breakarch painted dial by Wilkes and Baker of Birmingham ( recorded 1815 - 1820 in Whittall Street, Birmingham ). Moonphases to arch, subsidiary seconds dial below 12 o’clock position, “sad mouth” date aperture to lower dial centre and punch decorated brass hands.

MOVEMENT DETAILS

Good quality, 4 pillar, 8 day movement with hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell.

MAKER DETAILS

Slade of Trowbridge is recorded in the Parish Rate Book from 1813 - 1820.

DATE - Circa 1815.

Height - 82 1/4” ( 209 cms. ) or 80” ( 203 cms. ) excluding eagle/ball finial.
