Case:

Small high quality short door mahogany case with swan neck pediment, Corinthian capitals to ropetwist hood columns and matching quarter capitals to reeded trunk quarter columns.Shell inlay to trunk door, boxwood and ebony stringing,mahogany and rosewood crossbanding, burr walnut details and reeded canted base details.Typical Bristol “wavy edge” to inside edge of hood door.For a similar case with Bartley movement please see p.90  “The Clockmakers of Bristol 1650 - 1900” by A.J.Moore.

Dial: 12” breakarch painted dial with rocking ship automaton ( Believed to be a Bristol “Cutter” ).Roman numerals, seconds and date indicators.Brass hands.

Movement: 4 pillar, 8 day with hourly ( rack ) striking  
Maker: Mark Bartley of Bristol recorded 1815 – 1855 when he died.Recorded “A prolific maker of good quality clocks”.
