Superbly proportioned high quality figured mahogany case showing Chippendale influence in the fretted swan neck pediment, dentil mouldings beneath,carved details beneath that, and carved details to the trunk canted corners.
The foregoing, plusdome top trunk door, mitre veneered and oval inlaid base on ogee bracket feet are all typical of the work produced by the eminent Gillows firm of top quality cabinet makers and VERY probably by them.

N.B.
No clock cases are so far recorded with the Gillows stamp but many and varied examples are to be found in their pattern and order books.


Dial: 13” breakarch brass dial with moonphases to arch, High Water at home port ( Newcastle ) and moveable tidal indicators for homeward bound/ outward bound ports.Finely engraved dial centre with subsidiary seconds dial and square date box.Large cherubs head spandrels.

Movement: Good quality four pillar movement with anchor escapement, hourly ( rack ) striking and pull hour repeat.
