Case: Typical early 18C dark blue and chinoiserie lacquered flat top case with lenticle to trunk door and side windows to hood.Pillars attached to hood door.  
Dial: 12”square brass dial with matted and engraved dial centre, ringed winding holes and date aperture, engraved 12 pointed star to centre of seconds dial, and foliate engraving around date aperture.Cast brass  “crown and cherub” corner spandrels.  
Movement: High quality 5 (finned) pillar 8 day movement with hourly striking by inside countwheel.  
Maker: Cornelius Herbert of London Bridge (London).This is Cornelius junior who was apprenticed to his father of the same name in 1690, joined the Clockmakers Company in 1700, and rose to become Master of the Clockmakers Company in 1727.He died in 1751.He is recorded as “a fine maker” and a longcase clock by him featured in the famous Wetherfield Collection.
