ANTIQUE Longcase Lacquer CLOCKS

Antique lacquer clock cases where popular from the earliest ( late 17C ), with popularity dipping pre mid 18C with a revival in the late 18C. Not fashionable in the 19C so not many examples extant. Often encountered cheaply at auction, when in poor condition, because the lacquer restoration is hugely time consuming and thus expensive - especially as the few really good exponents of such have vast backlogs of work. Most common background colour is black with red, blue and green ( in all shades ) and faux tortoiseshell generally more sought after. Unusual backgrounds sometimes encountered i.e. ivory or yellow.
