Case | Well proportioned, long door, neat oak case with caddy top having fretted frieze under and tapered turned hood columns integral with hood door. Very good colour and patination. | |
Dial | 10" square brass dial with raised, silvered chapter ring, cherubs head spandrels and finely matted dial centre. Blued cut steel single hand. | |
Movement | Well executed, turned pillar, 30 hour "birdcage" movement with rare 1 1/4 seconds pendulum. Hourly ( countwheel ) striking on a single bell. | |
Maker | Jno. ( John ) Godwin of Crudwell ( North Wiltshire . An unrecorded maker ( so far ) but other, less original examples, noted. There is a clockmaker - Godwin of Tetbury ( a short distance from Crudwell ) recorded "early 19C" which may be part of the same family, skills often being passed down from father to son....... and so on. | |
