Case | Small, pretty, long door, pine case with dark red scumbled finish, "flying" hood columns and breakarch top. N.B. Longcases under 2m tall with breakarch moonphase dials are very rare - especially when they retain their proportions i.e. not cut at the base or at the top.Pine, often "scumbled" was frequently used in Cornwall for clock cases at the time. | |
Dial | 12" breakarch "Walker and Finnemore" painted dial with moonphases to arch, subsidiary seconds dial and "sad mouth" date aperture. The flat gilt bordered corner spandrels with painted pears to the upper spandrels and apples to the lower.Arabic main chapters with Arabic quarters to outer. Blued cut steel hands. | |
Movement | Good quality 8 day movement with 4 knopped pillars and hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell. | |
Maker | Jos. ( Joseph ) Pentecost Job.There is a John Pentecost Job ( Clockmaker ) recorded in the Kenwyn part of Truro, circa 1805 which I believe to be this man - with a middle name like Pentecost and with the unorthodox spelling of the time……. There are no other likely candidates. | |
