Case A small, neat, pretty, long door, "typically Lewis" ( Lewes ) light flame mahogany case with breakarch top, brass insert, fluted, "flying" hood columns, plain hood quarter columns and side windows to hood.Breakarch top to trunk door, raised panel base and shallow bracket feet.
Dial 12" breakarch, engraved and silvered brass dial signed in flowing script - Henry Ellis Lewis, to large oval reserve in the arch.Subsidiary seconds dial, blued cut steel hands.
Movement High quality 8 day, 5 pillar, movement with QUARTER CHIMING on 8 bells and hourly ( rack ) striking on a further, larger bell.
Maker Henry Ellis of Lewis is recorded Walwers Lane, Sussex 1818.
