Case A good, long door, "country mahogany" case with swan neck pediment centred with eagle/ball finial and having greek key pattern detail under.Locking hood door. Shaped top to long trunk door all set on shallow bracket feet.
Dial 12" breakarch brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial, "sad mouth" date aperture and strike/silent dial to arch. The silvered dial centre very finely scroll engraved. Rococo spandrels. Blued cut steel hands.
Movement Substantial and well executed 8 day movement with 4 knopped pillars, hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell.Strike/silent facility.
Maker George Gwyn of Ramsbury. Only the second clock I've seen by this rare maker - the other being resident in Ramsbury itself.
Date Circa 1790.
Height 89.7" ( 228 cms. ).
