This Longcase Mahogany Archive's Maker - Richard Lewton of Kingswood Hill ( Bristol ) is recorded 1868 - 1879 but this clock is, stylistically much earlier, say 1820 which begs the question "was there an earlier Richard Lewton - perhaps the father ?"

Title LCMAH 274
Case Very pretty, well proportioned, mahogany case with Corinthian Capitals to hood and matching trunk columns, inlays, inlaid stringing and crossbanding. Shell inlaid trunk door, swan neck pediment, swept bracket feet.A very fine example of the cabinetmaker's art.
Dial 13" breakarch, painted dial by Felton of Birmingham with moonphases to arch, subsidiary seconds dial, "sad mouth" date aperture.Colourful four seasons corner spandrels and "Ho Ho" birds to dial centre.Wavy shaded Arabic numerals with Finely cut, punch decorated, brass hands. N.B. Eli Felton, the dial maker, is recorded at 44, Weaman St., Birmingham 1808 - 1817.
Movement Good quality 8 day movement with 4 knopped pillars.Hourly ( rack ) striking on a single bell.
